Retirement Lending

Retirement Lending

Your home. Your equity. Your retirement plan.

Retirement lending & reverse mortgages

Retirement lending starts with the role your home can play in your next stage of life. A reverse mortgage is one option that may let eligible older homeowners access a portion of equity while continuing to live in their home.

A Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) generally requires borrowers to be at least 62 and complete HUD-approved counseling. Other reverse mortgage products may have different eligibility rules. With a qualifying reverse mortgage, monthly principal-and-interest payments generally are not required while loan conditions are met—but it is still a loan that must eventually be repaid.

Taxes, insurance, maintenance and qualifying occupancy remain your responsibility. Interest and fees increase the balance over time. We help you compare the costs, family goals and alternatives before deciding whether a reverse mortgage fits your retirement.

Solution highlights

  • Potential access to eligible equity for retirement cash flow
  • Review options for remaining in a qualifying primary home
  • A conversation that includes costs, counseling and family priorities

Taxes, insurance, maintenance, and applicable occupancy obligations continue. Interest and fees increase the balance; equity available to heirs may decrease. The loan becomes due under its terms, such as sale, death, or loss of qualifying occupancy; failure to meet obligations can lead to foreclosure.
